"Biography" is the buzz word in our class! I have been talking with the kids about biographies for awhile now and they have been anxiously awaiting getting their book to read! Today was that day. As each child got their book, they couldn't wait to sit down and start reading! It was such a wonderful sight to see. One child even chose to read at recess. The kids will be responsible for reading the book they have. They can read it at home and at school. They do need to bring it to school with them daily. There will be words that will be difficult for them to read. I have encouraged them to try sounding out words before asking for help. The kids will be given time during the day to read their books but will also need to read some at home. Remember, they are supposed to be reading 2o minutes a day anyway!!
As the students finish their books, I will be giving them a graphic organizer to fill out to help them plan their write up. Each child will have the graphic organizer by next Friday. The students may use additional resources to fill out their chart. The students will have through Spring Break to finish the graphic organizer. After Spring Break, I will give them the expectations for the written part of their project. They will have until March 24th to finish this.
The culmination of this project will be an oral presentation. Details on this will come later. The dates for the presentation will be:
Monday, March 29th at 8:30 after Town Hall Meeting (6 students)
Tuesday, March 30th at 8:20 (6 students)
Wednesday, March 31st at 8:20 (6 students)
* If you have a conflict with any one of these days, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can make the schedule and try my best to accommodate all!!
I hope you are as excited as I am! Happy Learning!
