Relay for Life

Dear Lower Division Parents,

Shorecrest is looking forward to hosting their 6th Annual Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society on Friday, March 25th.

This year’s Relay will be an all-day event, which begins at 9am and ends at 12 midnight. The day will kick off with an all-school assembly on the football field. Students will walk the track throughout the day with their PE classes. At 3:00pm the event will be open to the public. There will be a ceremony to honor survivors at 6:00pm and directly followed by the survivor dinner. The Luminaria Ceremony will take place at 9:00pm. This year’s Relay will wrap up with the closing ceremony at 11:45pm.

We are involving the younger students in Relay For Life this year with a brand new fund raising project. Students will be given the opportunity to make a donation of any amount to the American Cancer Society in return for a "link.” After making a donation, students will be given a paper link from their teacher. They will then be able to write/draw on their link, which will then be attached to other links to form a classroom chain. Each student can donate once a day, for as many days as they would like starting on Feb. 16th and ending on March 24th. The classroom with the longest chain will be given an ice cream party. The students will be able to view their impact on Relay by seeing all the links attached around the track on the day of Relay (March 25th).

Thank you for your support in the American Cancer Society and your child’s participation in Shorecrest’s Relay For Life 2011.

Sincerely,

Austin Fuss ‘11
Event Chair of Relay For Life
