I can't believe it is Tuesday! I trust you had a wonderful 4 day weekend. I know I was very excited to enjoy this beautiful weather. We jumped right back into the swing of things today. We have 3 busy weeks before Spring Break! Here is what is going on:
Writing Museum Celebration
Friday at 8:20 in our classroom
Please stop by to see what your kiddo has been working on in Writer's Workshop. The kids have been focusing a lot on revision. They will be displaying and explaining the process they went through from start to publishing. This will not take long and we should be done by if not before 9:00.
Reading Week is next week. Here is an overview:
Reading Week will take place February 28 – March 4.
Monday – Dress as your favorite book character/share books in class. I encourage your kids to be creative. These are not to be Halloween costumes. The character should be from a book your child has read independently. If they have the book at home, please have them bring it to school with them. They will come dressed as their favorite character and then will be able to change into regular school uniform.
Tuesday – Visiting Illustrator– Frank Remkiewicz for EC – 2grades
Wednesday – Outside – “Drop Everything and Read” (8:15 –8:50) – please send a towel with your child to sit on.
Thursday – Community Authors – Liesel Sole, Gina Longino, and Danielle Cameron/Buddy Reading
Friday – Oldie Goldie Book Sale
Oldie Goldie Book Fair: Oldie Goldie will be held on March 4 and will be the culminating event for Reading Week. Please have your kids go through their bookshelves and donate what they no longer read. Everyone loves to buy, but the more books that are brought in, the more books there are to purchase.
Spirit Day: Spirit Day is on Friday, February 25. Students may wear green and gold colored clothing.
Field Day: Field Day will take place on Friday, March 11.
Spring Break: Week of March 14th
Language Arts: We are focusing on plot and comparing/contrasting. Our mentor text this week is A Chair for My Mother. We will also be discussing present tense action verbs.
Writing Workshop: Celebration Revision, getting ready to start a new unit!
Science: We will be finishing our big unit on Matter! The kids made their own "recipes" two weeks ago. Their classmates will get to try their recipes this week.
Math: We will be finishing up Unit 7.
Social Studies: Asia
Biography Projects will be done mainly in class. The kids are finishing up their research and been working on timelines. While I will provide the main materials for the projects, your kids may come home with some materials they need to bring in. Thank you for partnering with me on this! We will hopefully complete these and be able to share before Spring Break.
