Week of January 3rd
The students are still hard at work on their Australia projects. We are hoping to be done by Friday! I am hoping to set up a time next week that you guys can come in and view their projects. I will have the kids let you know! They are having a blast researching but are most excited about being creative and sharing what they learned.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day
If you know that your child will have someone special coming on Friday can you email me their names and addresses. The kids will be writing them letters next week. Thank you!
Here is our week at a glance:
Language Arts:
- Spelling words -- r-controlled vowel /ir/ ear, eer
- Comprehension -- locating information, using reference resources, and asking questions
- Grammar -- words that compare
Science: Last week the kids did an awesome experiment called Looking at Rust. We have been discovering how some solids and liquids react when they are mixed, forming a new substance, such as gas (in the last experiment). This week they investigated the production of rust. After rinsing steel wool samples in two liquids, water and vinegar, students observed and compared the rinsed steel wool to the dry steel wool. By observing an immediate change in color and texture in the steel wool that was rinsed with vinegar and feeling the warmth emitted from the cup, students began to understand the changes in color, texture, and temperature can be indicators of a chemical reaction.
Last Friday, we got to plant tomato seeds. We are looking forward to starting our unit on Plants in February.
Writing Workshop: We are continuing our Revision unit.
Please check last week's post for upcoming dates and special events.
Conference Day is February 9th! The schedule is posted under the top tab labeled "Spring Conferences"!
Have a wonderful week.
