This week is Celebrate the Arts week! This is always a special week here at Shorecrest. We kicked the week off with a performance from The Sound of Music. It was very exciting and the kids were all bouncing to the music! You can see the full musical this week in the theatre on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. The tickets went on sale today. Mr. McKenzie and I will be there Friday night!
Today, the kids enjoyed a performance from a Blue Grass group. We loved it. We could have listened to them all day. Make sure to ask them about it. The students also got to practice the song they will be singing on Friday (at 11:00). Please send your child dress in jeans (denim bottoms) and a yellow shirt on Friday for this performance. If you do not have a yellow shirt or do not want to get one, they can wear a white shirt. Friday is also when we will be enjoying the picnic lunch outside at noon. Many of you will be joining us. We look forward to it! If you are joining us, please remember to bring something to sit on. Your kids may bring a small towel or blanket to sit on as well.
Wednesday they will hear from storytellers and then on Friday they will learn from visiting artists! What a special week here at Shorecrest!
Last week in Reading Workshop, we continued our work on following friendships in our books. Specifically, through a series of books. The students have become quite attached to some characters we have been reading about. The kids broke up into 4 groups and studied a specific series of books and the characters who are in them. They had a blast! They read, conferenced, and wrote in their journals about how the characters in the series stayed the same or changed and how (examples). They also presented their findings to the class. They were very proud of their work and so was I!!
Our African Animal projects are moving right along. The students worked all last week on their research and working to become "experts" on their animals. I have seen a huge improvement in their reading and research skills since the beginning of the year. This week they will begin putting together their projects. They were super excited today to get started and WOW the creativity has already begun! I am hoping to have these done by the first week of May for you to come and view. I will keep you posted!

ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO SHARE
The students have been working hard on their electronic portfolios. These portfolios will showcase work from class, Technology, Music, and Art! Our portfolio share time will be on Monday, May 7th from 2:00 to 2:45. We look forward to seeing you there!
