Week of December 10th

I love that we got to kick of the week with a presentation at Town Hall! The kids were so excited to share with teachers and peers a little bit about themselves! I am so proud of them for getting up and speaking clearly into the microphone. Love them! Thank you for coming if you were able to.

Today in Technology we worked on our Electronic Portfolios using the iPads. I am blown away by how quickly your kids have learned these skills and how much fun they are having. We cannot wait to share with you these portfolios at the end of the year. What a special treat!

This week we continue to stay busy. We are all looking forward to the field trip on Wednesday to First Fruits Hydroponic Farm. Feel free to meet us there. The address and information is on last weeks blog!

Last week we wrote a letter to a school in France that we will be corresponding with a bit this year. The students were very excited and are looking forward to hopefully receiving a letter from them in the next week or so! What a great connection this will be for the children.

In Reading Workshop, we have been talking about how Good Readers Listen to their Hearts and Brains when they read. We practiced this by marking spots in our books with sticky notes. We then discussed with partners about why we marked that spot and what made us think or feel the way we did. The kids are doing a great job. We furthered our work by using our Reading Journals to record our thinking. Thank you for your support in reading with them at home and hopefully having conversations about what we are working on here at school!

I hope you enjoyed our class Poetry Anthology that your child brought home on Friday. The students worked very hard on this unit and are so very proud of their work. I hope this becomes a special keepsake for them!

In Science last week we did another dissolving race. In this lesson, the students continued to investigate dissolving by exploring another factor that affects how fast sugar dissolves in water; the temperature of the water. The students had a blast of course!

Thank you for taking the time to look of their math assessment last week. We are excited about this new unit and all it has to offer. Please make sure that before your child starts their math homework at night that they read and understand the directions. Please also take the time to check their work. If they miss something, simply circle it and have them correct it. Remember, the goal of this homework is to reinforce the work that is going on here at school!
