Grandparents/Special Friends Day
I had a wonderful time meeting and talking with the grandparents and special friends on Friday. The students
were so excited to see them and to be able to share with them some of the hard work they have done this year. I loved seeing the children and adults beam with pride! The students will be writing their grandparents/special friends letters this week to thank them for coming to visit with us. A note is coming home today as well. Please return that note along with their addresses to me by Wednesday.
Spirit Wear Tomorrow
Tomorrow the students and faculty have been asked to wear Spirit Wear. They would prefer that the tops be green, yellow, or white (if possible). We will be getting together as a school for a Pep Rally as well as a group picture! It should be fun :). This will change our Library Checkout day to Wednesday. The students may still bring their books back tomorrow.
Social Studies
We are going Down Under in 2nd grade! We have begun our project research on Australia. Each child has chosen a topic about Australia that they would like to become "experts" on! They formulated guiding questions to help them with their research. They were eager to get started researching today! By the end of the week they should have their research done and will begin planning their visual aid for their projects. These projects will be done in class. If your child wants to talk to you about their research or project, please engage in that discussion! As we get more involved, I will be able to tell you when we will be done and plan to share our projects! It will definitely be something you will want to attend!
Tomorrow we will be celebrating Australia Day in 2nd grade. Australia Day is celebrated on January 26 and commemorates the establishment of the first settlement at Port Jackson, now part of Sydney, in 1788. This fits right into our unit of study! Tomorrow the students will go through four rotations (between the 4 classes) to participate in activities and learn more about Australia!
Math
- 3-Dimensional Shapes
- Pyramids
- Lines of Symmetry
The students are truly enjoying watching their plants grow! They are observing, watering, and journaling about the "journey" their seeds are taking. This Friday we will be cleaning out our garden box as we prepare them to plant flowers in a couple of months. We will also harvest tomatoes on Friday. We will then cook and eat fried green tomatoes! The students LOVE being able to be in the garden (especially when it means they get to sample the food). If you have gardening gloves that your child can use, please send them in by Friday.
