Here is what is going on this week!
Language Arts
Phonics: Long vowel /o/ oa, ow
Spelling and Challenge Words: boat, snow, coat, grow, float, own, low, load, soak, bowl, yellow, snowflake, sailboat, carload, window
Bonus Words: The kids came up with some words that they wanted to learn for "BONUS"! These words will not count against them but will help them strengthen their spelling skills. They are very excited.
celebrate, pumpkin, costume, October, Halloween
High-Frequency Words: believe, brought, early, enough, impossible, quite, understand
Comprehension Focus: Plot
Robust Vocabulary and Student-Friendly Explanations:
brisk - When you walk in a quick and lively way, you have a brisk walk.
strutted - If you strutted across a room, you walked like you were the most important person in the world.
gobbled - If you gobbled up your dinner, you quickly gulped your food.
paced - If someone walked back and forth in a small area, he or she paced.
request - When you request something, you ask for it.
negotiate - When you negotiate, you talk, and offer to give up one thing in exchange for another, in hopes of reaching an agreement.
compromise - When each side in an argument gives up part of what it wants, the sides have made a compromise.
improve - When you make something better, you improve it.
* The students will have assessments at the end of the week covering the spelling/challenge, robust, and high-frequency words. Please practice these daily with your kids!
