The mobile projects still have me smiling. They are all hanging from the ceiling and I love taking time to enjoy them. The kids are so very proud of them and enjoyed sharing a bit of themselves with their friends. Feel free to stop by and see them. I plan to post pictures once I have the "ok" from everyone.
Today you will find on the back of your kiddo's homework sheet their spelling words. On the left side the kids took their spelling pretest. They were to correct the words on the right side. This practice is going to take a little getting used to. I went back and checked over to help clarify. The words are also available on the top right side of this blog. I will not be adjusting the last five words this week. I know that many of them got them right, but I want them to get used to the practice of checking and recording first before I change words :). Please also note that they are to use lower case letters unless it is a proper noun like Spanish. Please also make sure that your child is writing their letters correctly, not backwards. I can't wait to see how fabulous they do on Friday. They were very enthusiastic this morning!
The robust vocabulary words are to be practice nightly as well. The students will take a quiz on Friday where they will have to choose the best words to complete a paragraph or sentence. Use the student friendly definitions to help them understand the words.
In Science last week we did our first experiment! The kids had a blast. We learned about how to make a hypothesis, record data, and write a conclusion. The kids made three paper airplanes out of three different weights of paper. We were quite a sight to see throwing airplanes and measuring the distance they flew!
We are continuing to work on "Just Right" books in reading, settling into Writer's Workshop, and following classroom rules and procedures. We have jumped into math and are already counting money! You will see another math game come home this week. Hold on to these so that you can continue to reinforce the skills we are learning. Thank you for reading with your child at night, signing their homework sheet, and communicating with me as needed. I trust you have a wonderful week and I can't wait to "check back in" next Monday.

**Some students received bright orange word rings. These are the sight words that they need to continue practicing. Once you feel your child has mastered a word, please check the back of that word. I will then have the child read it to me and if they have mastered it, I will tear that word off of the ring. I have instructed the kids to keep the rings in the the clear pouch in their folders.
I am ok with posting the pictures.
