Week of October 18th

Happy Monday!

The school was sure quiet on Friday without the hustle and bustle of the students!

You should have received your invites by now to our Author's Celebration this Friday at 8:20 in our classroom. This is such a great experience, please try to be there. My goal is to video tape them reading, so if you can't make it, it will be documented! The kids have worked so hard on writing their small moment stories. They picked one story to edit and publish. You will get a chance to look at their "rough" drafts.

In math this week we will be focusing a lot on reading clocks, telling time, and collecting data. Practicing telling time at home is an important activity. Please also continue to review the addition and subtraction facts. Don't forget the useful sites linked on the side of the blog!

In Science this week we will continue our study of Matter but we are also discussing the plant cycle. The student students started a bean experiment this morning and will be keeping a journal about it.

Please send in some seeds with your kiddo by Wednesday. These can be seeds you find around the house or store bought. We are going to make a mini seed museum! If you get a chance with your child, walk over and look at the garden we planted with the Upper Division. It is amazing and really growing strong!

I am so proud of the progress the kids are making in reading. They love to read and have been focusing on what good readers do as well as how to pick a "just right book"! Please continue to read with your child at home.

Our spelling words this week are words with what we call the "bossy r". Please practice these words on Spelling City. Remember you can add your child's blue words to the list as well. You will also see that the kids will be working with nouns (common, proper, singular, and plural) this week.

Reminders:

  • Spirit Day Friday
  • Fall Festival form was due today, please turn in if you have not
  • Unit 2 math test needs to be returned signed
  • Used Halloween Costume drive is still going on
  • We hope to see you Friday!
** Remember, you can send in Cash for Trash items to be recycled by the school. We have a bin in the classroom. Also, our Boxtop bin is not full at all! Please save those boxtops. They benefit the school greatly!
