Week of October 25th

We ARE Authors!! Words cannot begin to express how proud I am of your children. They have been working so hard on their writing unit and it paid off. I hope you enjoyed the celebration on Friday. It means the world to all of us that you took the time to come and celebrate with us! We look forward to seeing you at the next one!

In Language Arts we have been working on Plot, reading for comprehension, and NOUNS (common, plural, singular and proper). These week we are continuing to work on Plot and reading for comprehension, but we will be focusing on compound words along with nouns. You will see that some of our spelling words are compound words this week. Our spelling words this week have the long vowel /o/ oa, ow. Please use Spelling City as a resource for practicing spelling words. You can enter your child's individual blue words into spelling city as well for practice!

In Math, we are working on the following skills:

• Making Change by Counting Up
• Coin Exchanges
• Review/Math Assessment
• Please continue to practice math addition/subtraction facts and telling time

In Science last week we did an experiment called A Dissolving Race: Two Forms of Sugar. In a nutshell, the students have been investigating what happens when they mix various solids with water. In this lesson they compared two forms of the same substance - a sugar cube and granulated sugar. They observed that sugar dissolves faster when it is in smaller pieces and when it is stirred. This activity prepares students for the next lesson where they will examine another factor that affects the dissolving of sugar - the temperature of water.
