Week of March 5th

Last week was a blast! We love science, so last week was extra special as we celebrated our "Spotlight on Science". Here are some of the activities we enjoyed:
  • Laura Engleby shared with us about her amazing job. She works for NOAA and studies dolphins. We LOVED her presentation and learned a lot about these amazing creatures. The kiddos asked some really great questions that we emailed to her after the presentation!
  • We built terrariums
  • We "ate a garden". YUM! The kids amazed me by how much they loved eating vegetables - even ones they had never tried before!
  • We listened to a fabulous presentation from a Landscape Architect. The kids even had a chance to design their own playgrounds!
  • 4th grade students taught us about electricity and circuits.
  • We shared with 4th grade students what we have learned about plants and even show them how we pollinated our plants.
This week is equally as exciting as we have some other great learning opportunities. These include:
  • Chris Lenz will be speaking to us tomorrow. He is a herpatologist and studies reptiles and other exotic animals. He will be bringing some animals for the children to see.
  • Upper Division students who have partnered with the Red Cross will be presenting to our class on Wednesday
  • We will also be headed up to the theatre for a special workshop on Wednesday with some of the Upper Division theatre students
Don't forget! Thursday is the Biography Presentations. Your kiddo needs to come dressed up as the person they researched! They will need to bring their uniform to change into! They are working hard this week on memorizing the facts and practicing how they are going to present. Please encourage them to practice with you at home. The room will be set up like a "museum". The adults will have the opportunity to rotate around and listen to the different presentations.

FIELD DAY: Friday is Field Day. A paper was sent home last week regarding Field Day and all of the details. If you have any questions, please contact one of the coaches! The students will need to come dress in a shirt that matches their team color.

Have a wonderful and safe Spring Break! We are headed to Utah for the week. I am so excited to get back on skis after 10 years as well as watching my husband learn to ski. I am expecting many good laughs. This will be Finley's first trip on an airplane. Wish us luck! You know I will post a picture of our little snow bunny when we return. Have a wonderful week!
