Week of March 19th

I trust you all had a wonderful Spring Break! I sure did. We had an amazing time in Utah. It was definitely Spring skiing. For those of you who were out there, you know what I mean :)! Finley LOVED every minute of it! Even though Finley isn't skiing yet, I have a slight obsession with all of the little munchkins who ski. They are just the cutest thing ever! It was great to see the kids this morning. They were excited to get back and couldn't wait to share with their friends all the fun stuff they did over break.

I cannot believe that we are in the homestretch to becoming 3rd graders!! We jumped right back into the swing of things!

In Reading Workshop, we are starting a new Unit of Study on Friendship. We will be examining the good times and bad times that friends go through. This unit encourages students to follow the friends in series books through journeys that consist of good times and bad times. This unit focuses on enhancing students' use of envisionment, inference, and synthesis. The goal throughout this unit and minilessons is for the students to gain an understanding of friendship and be able to discuss and grow new ideas with their partners.

In Math, we will be talking about patterns in counting, extending compliments of 10, and mental arithmetic. Please take time to look over the math assessment that come home today, sign it and return it to school. Thank you!

In Writing Workshop, we are continuing our work on prompt writing. This is a new and somewhat challenging skill for the students. The prompt they just completed was:

One day while sitting in class you discover something about your best friend. You knew he or she was special but never did you imagine that your best friend was a robot. Write a story about it.

Science: Plant Unit
Social Studies: Wrapping up Asia
Upcoming Dates/Info:

Ident-a-kid is Wednesday. Please send the forms in if you wish for your child to be a part of this.

Relay For Life: Teachers and students may wear their Relay shirts or purple shirts Monday - Friday 3/26-3/30. Students must wear their uniform shorts with their purple shirt.

**The students did an amazing job on their biography projects. I was so proud of them. They were also pretty adorable as well! I uploaded pictures to Shutterfly. Enjoy!

Have a wonderful week!
