Thank you for the kind words and thoughts regarding the passing of Mrs. Weinman. She truly was an amazing woman, whom we miss dearly. It has been a difficult time for the faculty and we are grateful for your support. Her service yesterday was beautiful.

FALL FESTIVAL is tomorrow! Please send your child dressed in their costume with a change of clothes. After the parade, they will come back to the classroom to change and then we will provide them with a snack. When it is time for them to head out to the Fall Festival, they must be signed out and accompanied by an adult. I will have the sign out sheet with me. I can't wait to see all of their costumes. If you take any pictures that you would like to share with others, please put them on a CD and I will add them to the Shutterfly site. Thank you!

November is here (on Thursday) and it is crunch time! Please keep practicing the poems with your kids. For poetry in the park, we are asking the boys to wear black shirts and black pants (dark jeans are fine as well). The girls should just be a "Fancy Nancy". Please, nothing too elaborate, for there is limited space on the risers. Also, no wings or fancy head pieces that might obstruct the viewing of another little fly :). They have worked very hard on this poem and you will be almost as proud as they are!

Please hold on to the letter that is coming home today regarding the 2nd Grade Performance on November 16th. Please make sure that your child (with your help) neatly completes the flag with MARKER and returns by Thursday. Please also be on the lookout for an email from the room moms regarding volunteers and help with things program related :). They are going to do such a great job, and they are so stinking cute!

In science last week we did yet another exciting experiment. We focused on mixing and separating solids and liquids. This experiment took us two days! The students built on previous experiences by mixing three solids (gravel, toilet tissue, and kosher salt) with water. Each of the solid-and-liquid mixtures varied in the degree to which the substances mixed. The gravel settled to the bottom and the toilet tissue changed in texture and appearance as its fibers broke apart. Unlike the gravel and tissue, the salt mixed so  well with the water that the individual components of the mixture were difficult to see.  This week they will be trying to separate the mixtures with a sieve and filter. 

In math, we will be beginning Unit 3. Please continue to work with them on their addition and subtraction facts. They should be able to recall these quickly without the use of their fingers.

We are continuing to explore poetry! The kids are having a wonderful time reading and writing poetry. We will also publishing a poem or two that we will display for Poetry in the Park.
