So many great things are going on here in room 2-4! The students just amaze me by how much they are able to accomplish daily! I hope you got to see the picture in E-bytes of us visiting the Upper Division French class. It was a great experience. The kids had a blast! We will be writing letters back to France within the next month! I was very pleased with the students' spelling assessments last week. As you saw, I gave them 5 words from the list and then gave them 5 words not from the list. Last week I was checking to make sure they understand to change y to an i and add es. This week we are working on how /ph/ and /gh/ make the /f/ sound. Please also remember that your child needs to study their individual words! Keep up the good work. We are well on our way to THIRD GRADE!!

Here are some highlights:

  • We wrapped up our unit on Europe. The students did a summary activity on the computers.
  • We wrapped up our unit in Math. The kids have worked very hard on the Partial Sums Algorithm.
  • We will be starting our unit on PLANTS this week! We will have planting day on Friday! This unit is so fun. The kids will have the opportunity to watch the plants grow by observing them daily right in our 2nd grade hallway!
  • We began our unit on Friendship in reading. The students are loving the books and really having a blast comparing stories and characters. I am so very pleased with their enthusiasm and hard work!
  • We are finalizing the details on our published piece of writing. We will share with each other later this week.
  • We started our Monster Project in Technology. This is a memorable project that the kids will be talking about! There are many steps. Last week the students drew/created their monsters. Today they filled out a web describing their monsters. Over the next few weeks they will write a descriptive paragraph about their monsters. These paragraphs will be mailed to another school where the students will attempt to draw our monsters only using our descriptive paragraphs! This is why we have been working hard on adjectives!
  • As we continue on with our handwriting, the kids know that neat handwriting is an expectation. Please make sure your child is doing their homework neatly and completely. If they do not do their work neatly I will be asking them to do it again (with the exception of the other hand spelling activity :) ).
Thank you for all of your hard work at home! We are going to continue to have a wonderful year. We have so many great things coming up. Please remember that there is no school on Monday. Have a wonderful and blessed week!
