Week of November 1st

I could tell this morning that your kids had a fun weekend! Many were tired, but overall, they had a great day! I loved their costumes and was glad for them to have such a fun day on Friday! We are getting excited as November is a big month in Second grade. Our performance is on the 19th. We have already begun practicing the songs and poems. Please practice the poems with your child daily as they are expected to know them for the program!

The spelling words this week are a review of the past 4 lessons. Today I gave a pretest of all 40 words we have had in the past 4 lessons. Your child is only responsible for the words on the back of their homework sheet that I wrote in orange. These are the words your child missed. The vocabulary words are new this week.

In science, we are continuing our work with matter and plants.

We took our third math assessment, they will be coming home this week but will need to be signed and returned. Here is what we will be working on this week in math:
  • Change-to-More Number Stories
  • Parts-and-Total Number Stories
  • Exploring temperature, money and shapes
  • Temperature Changes
In writing the kids have been working on some poetry to display at Poetry in the Park! Please work on Boing, Boing, Squeak!

Reminders:
  • Book Fair - next week
  • Poetry in the Park - November 10th
  • No School - November 12th
  • 2nd Grade Performance - November 19th
  • No School - November 22nd - November 26th
Please continue to read with your child at home. Many students have been bringing in their reading logs, while many have not. This is an expectation!
