Week of November 8th

Can you believe that we are two weeks away from Thanksgiving break! This first part of the year has FLOWN by! The next two weeks will be very busy for us here in second grade. As you know we have poetry in the park on Wednesday. We look forward to performing our poem "Boing, Boing, Squeak" for you. The following Friday we will be having our big Second Grade Performance! We have been working really hard on the songs at school. I can tell that many of the children have been practicing the poems at home. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE practice these poems with your child. I sent a hard copy home awhile ago, but also have the poems listed on one of the pages that you can reach by the tabs at the top of this blog. We will be sending information home soon regarding what the kids will need to wear for the performance. Thank you for reading the blog as well as actively reading the papers that come home. We went to the Book Fair today and the kids were able to make Wish Lists. You are welcome to take your child to the book fair before or after school. You may also send in money on Tuesday with your child so that they can purchase books as well. I may be able to send kids over on Wednesday and Thursday to purchase books as well. Please read the following information regarding the hours for the book fair if you would like to accompany your child as well how to send a check and/or money for the book fair.
  • Tuesday, November 9th: 8am - 4pm
  • Wednesday, November 10th: 8am - 5:30pm
  • Thursday, November 11th: 7:15am - 4pm
  • If you choose to send money in with your child tomorrow, please place the cash in a zip-top bag with child's name on it - Please note for safety, they will not be able to give students more than $20 in change.
  • Students can bring checks for purchases. Please make checks out to "Shorecrest Preparatory School" - if amount is left blank, note in the memo section the maximum amount the check can be made out for.
Starting today, Jeff Diedrich will be your child’s primary teacher in physical education for the coming trimester. Each Monday, he will be posting a blog that recaps the learning that took place during the previous week. Feel free to follow along at http://shorecrestldpecoachd.blogspot.com

Please remember that Poetry in the Park is this Wednesday at 8:30. Remember to bring lawn/beach chairs so that you have a place to sit. The kids will be seated on the ground in front of the stage. There will be a 15 minute snack in the middle where the kids will come back to classroom for snack. The snack for parents will be set up in the breezeway. Remember the kids only have 15 minutes so it would be best if you did not come in during the snack time to see your kiddo. You will have time after Poetry in the Park is over :). Please have your child wear denim bottoms and a solid color shirt of their choice to Poetry in the Park.

Next Friday is our Second Grade Performance! Please send in empty milk gallon jugs and paper bags. I know Mrs. Davis has sent out an email in regards to volunteers for shirt painting (this week) as well as helping to set up the stage next Wednesday. This is such an exciting time! Our class has 3 short lines for individual students. I allowed every child to tell me who would like a speaking part and then I drew names out of a "hat". Those children will get their simple lines this week. They are to be memorized.

Remember, no school this Friday.
