Last week we had the privilege of getting to watch the 4th grade performance - We Haz Jazz! The students loved it! They were talking about what part they hope to have when they get to fourth grade. The grade level performances are just another reminder of what makes our school so special!
I trust you enjoyed getting the opportunity to view the children's Australia Projects! They absolutely LOVED working on them. I wish I could have seen their faces as they shared them. If you did not get the opportunity to see your child's, please let me know so you can see it on Conference Day.

Writing Museum Celebration
This Friday at 8:20 in our classroom. Please stop by to see what your kiddo has been working on in Writer's Workshop. The kids have been focusing a lot on revision. They will be displaying and explaining the process they went through from start to publishing. This will not take long and we should be done by if not before 9:00.
Upcoming Study/Project
Our story this week is a biography of George Washington Carver. This goes well with our study of nonfiction stories. This book is an introduction to the biographies that that the kids will be reading and researching this month. The students will be looking, here at school, for a biography they would like to read. They are to choose someone who has contributed something meaningful to others. Next week, they will begin the research phase of this project. The project has multiple layers. This is one of my favorite projects. I can't wait. More details to come. Please make sure to check the blog every Monday!
Math: We will be taking our Unit 5 Assessment. Please make sure to sign and return it once you have had a chance to view it.
Science: This week we begin our plant unit! The students are so very excited! I am as well!

Upcoming Events/Dates:
Celebrate the Arts is begins April 16- 20. If you are a visual, literary, musical, or performing artist and would like to participate in this event, or know someone else who would be great teaching children about their art, please contact Sue Row, Valerie Diaz Leroy, Betty Gootson, Esther Happle, or Dr. Bianco (lbianco@shorecrest.org). The theme this year is folk art. We need about twenty-five artists to work with children on Friday, April 20. Artists usually teach two forty-minute workshops in the morning.
The Lower Division Reading Week starts February 21. We will have a special town meeting and ask children to dress as their favorite character. On Wednesday, February 22nd we will drop every thing and read quietly together outside as a school. On Thursday, February 23 classes there will be buddy reading. As the culminating event, Oldie Goldie Book Fair will be on Friday, February 24.
This week the children will attend Aesop's Fables. It will be performed in the Recreation Gym on Tuesday, Feb. 7th at 1 pm for grades EC - 2. Please feel free to join us.
Progress reports will be published online for parents to access on Wednesday, February 29.
The Relay for Life Cookout will be on Wednesday, February 15.
Professional Development day is on Friday, February 17. No school. (Presidents Day on Monday, February 20. No school as well.)
Science Week will take place February 27 - March 8.
Class Picture Day will take place on the morning of Wednesday, February 29 in the Crisp Gym.
The Third Grade Program will take place on Friday, March 2 at 8:30 and the rehearsal will be on Thursday, March 1 at 8:30. Please join us for a great show!
Field Day is on Friday, March 9.
Ident a kid will be here on Wednesday, March 21 in the Student Center.
